Well thanks for the support last night everyone. Finished off the bottle around 3 am after marathoning like 5 episodes of Roadkill. Good scotch too. Thankfully there was only about 1/3 of the bottle left. Made it to work on time and am still here for reasons I don’t understand. Oh well, so it goes. The scotch was delicious BTW. Recommended. Just don’t tell people you spent your evening with a 12 year old unless they also drink scotch.

Never been a fan of Scotch whisky (Irish whiskey is my tipple, love it) but I have enjoyed one.
For christmas a good friend bought me a single malt Scotch (The Ardmore), it’s the worst whisky or whiskey I’ve ever tasted.

I love glenmorangie. If you want a really great budget scotch, try Monkey Shoulder.
Its about 30 bucks a bottle and is ALMOST as good as a 50 dollar single malt. and a good savings on it. Definitely will be far better than you expect.
Im a big scotch drinker, definitely give it a shot.

Looks awesome
If you want to save some cash - $30 bucks for a bottle that competes at the $50 price range:

The Ardmore is real “Peaty” and if you’re an Irish Whiskey drinker, it would taste like hell.
I recommend a Scotch called Speyburn if you want to try a Scotch.
For Irish, check out Teeling Irish Whiskey, awesome stuff.

I was at a wedding afterparty and someone had brought a bottle of Teeling for the party, good stuff, I made everyone do shots of it until the bottle was gone. Needless to say it was a very successful party errrr wedding.

Alright, I’m going to look it up, if I can get it I’ll do a review on The Cask . I’m worried about it being a blend as I typically don’t like blends, but the write up description doesn’t use the word “Peat” anywhere in it so that’s a positive. It looks like it is a Speyside too, and I prefer Spey’s

I know the Teeling. I tried the single grain after you posted your review on your bottle.

Other than an old Bushmills. The Teeling single grain is probably my favourite and great value for money.

Last time I visited my parents, my stepdad shared some 18-year-old Glenmorangie with me. I liked it, but holy crap was it peaty. After just one, I had to have a beer as a palate cleanser. I think next time I’ll have some with soda instead of straight.

I know its a blend, and when I was recommended it, I thought the same thing. I had hopes it would be good, but knew it wouldnt be. Until I tried it.
Dont get me wrong, Im not telling you, or anyone else, that its the best Scotch in the world. What it is, is, way better than it should be for being a blended 30 dollar bottle. My favorite go to was always Glen Livet, it still is my favorite non luxury bottle. Monkey Shoulder was good enough to be my new go-to. Its significantly cheaper, about 20 bucks cheaper or so. And its ALMOST as good, just a hair away from being just as good. Just a hair.

OH RIGHT
You were the Single Grain guy!
Well at least you know I’ve stuck with it lol.
Have you heard of a bottle called Donegal? It’s a blend and it’s looking like it’s blended for direct mix and send to the US, doesn’t even appear to be available in the UK.

Well if THAT’S how you feel about it lol.
Glenlivet was my go to as well, until I discovered Speyburn 10 year for only $29.99. My Father in Law who was born in Scotland and has always been a die-hard Glenlevit guy has had Speyburn 10 with me twice now and says it’s his new favorite. Last weekend he was over and after having some he said to me “Holy shit I’m buying a bottle of this”
Just so you know it’s a blend of these 3 Scotch’s, Mashbill: 100% malted barley (blend of Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie)

I enjoy Glenmorangie in all its varieties but I've had to stop drinking scotch just because the price here is absurd: I think the standard bottle is now over $60, probably closer to $70 for a 26oz/750ml bottle.

What state are you in? I live in NJ and have trouble finding a good diversity. Fortunately my Fiance lives in PA and there is a far better selection near her. I will definitely look for Speyburn and give it a shot. What could another bottle of Scotch hurt haha?
(My fiance would argue that one, I received about 7 bottles of Scotch and Bourbon for Christmas, 3 of which were Monkey Shoulder, I probably don’t need more)
If you like Bourbon, give W.L. Weller a shot. There are three varieties, ones the regular, there’s a 105 proof, and a 12 year. I don’t think it matters too much. They go for 20 bucks a bottle and its fantastic. My father is a serious bourbon snob, and he turned me onto it. From what he explained, its the exact same mashbill they use to age Pappy Van Winkle, it just isn’t as old, or aged in the same part of the distillery. It really is great too, the first time I tried it, I tried it with friends, who admittedly aren’t too into whiskey other than just drinking it, but we tried it along with Makers 47. Being both wheated bourbon they should compare. The WL Weller was empty and the Makers 47 wasn’t. Ive bought two bottles since then too.

I’ve heard of it at some point but don’t recall when.
It’s not in my usual go to place for Irish whiskey.

Damn, well there’s been a call on my The Cask write ups for more Bourbon and Scotch. I’m more of a Canadian, Irish and Rye in general drinker, but that’s what it’s all about - broadening horizons.
W.L. Weller and Monkey Shoulder are now on the list. If it’s competing with Makers 47 it’s good Bourbon and at 20 bucks - you’re speaking my language man.
I’m in Michigan by the way. Only one store carries Donegal but I have 2 stores that know me well enough that they’ll order whatever I want, they know I’m good for it at this point. To find Donegal you may need to order. It’s about 25-26 bucks in Michigan, buttery smooth though. Smacks around $40 bottles of Irish Whiskey. if you put it next to most $40 Irish bottles, it makes them taste like $15 bucks and the Donegal taste like $50.

I guess Jameson has offended that website, all the Jameson bottles are upside down lol.
I’m pretty sure it’s made by Star Distributors and only for the US Market

The Donegal flavor?
http://oppositelock.kinja.com/the-cask-doneg…
There’s the review, I suppose I didn’t touch on flavor much other than just “GOD DAMN THIS IS GOOD”. It actually is a really buttery smooth flavor, not much in the way of smokiness to be found. The word I kept coming back to was buttery.

Donegal is the best under $35 bottle of Irish.
If you want to try Canadian try to find Legacy Small Batch. It’s the best bottle of ANY whiskey I’ve had under 20 bucks. ($19.99)
